The Farmers’ Market

Over the long holiday weekend, we took a walk over to the famers’ market at Grand Army Plaza in Park Slope. It was our first time back at the market in nearly two years. We walked around from stand to stand feeling overwhelmed by the busy crowds and a little bit in awe of the bounty of foods, like kids in a candy store. We ended up spending nearly all of the cash we had in our pockets, but we had a few dollars left and stopped at a stand selling organic meats after seeing a sign for dog bones.

The man who helped us said that uncooked meat bones are very good for dogs, as he picked through a cooler full of what looked like props from a horror movie. We ended up buying a small bone for Sammy and a larger bone for Lola that looked like a knee joint. We barely walked two minutes after our purchase when we decided to treat the dogs right then and there. We set the bones on the grass and Sammy and Lo went to town. It was if they hadn’t seen food in days! It gave us so much joy to watch them gnaw on the treats.

It’s too bad that the bones can be a little messy. I would prefer to give Sammy a big bone instead of forcing him to wear a barking collar.
