Don't let your dog eat wild mushrooms.
There is a giant mushroom growing along the path we usually take to walk the dogs. It’s about 18 inches wide and 7 inches tall. It’s creepy looking.
The mushrooms happen to be growing on the other side of a fence, but the sight of it reminded me that we and our dogs unknowingly encounter many perils every day.
Like mushrooms. They are common in wooded areas and will flourish after several days of rain. They look innocent enough but some varieties can be deadly for dogs.
This particular variety of mushroom is, I believe, called Hen of the Woods, and seems to be non-toxic. I have read several articles about the , which is highly poisonous and can kill your dog if eaten. The best advice is to always keep your dog close by, or on a leash, when you go for long walks.
